Abstract - Self-defendence and recreation

Self-defence is neither a discipline nor a sport: it is only a useful skill that is only one of training objectives in all sports and martial arts. It is based on some selected basic skills that are characteristic for a particular style of hand-to-hand combat; and its purpose os to: repel, avoid, weaken or neutralise the assailant’s attack, as well as to overpower and immobilise the attacker as a reaction to his attack. The efficiency of defensive activities depends on both physical characterustics: strength, speed, endurance, and flexibility as well as the repertoire of technical skills and also psychic features.
During the self-defence workouts, bidy-related values can be developed for recreation. These workouts become a mirror, in which the values of human body are reflected. While developing all of bodily values through controlled motor activity during hand-to-hand combat, this leads to the stimulation i.e. activation of processes in the body, which in turn leads to the activation of the processes of its development. The work-out process should be objective-orientated, planned, and conducted according to some binding rules, whereas the instructor should possess adequate qualifications and knowledge so that they could be implemented properly to the benefit for the health and improvement in the physical fitness of the people involved in training.
A regular, proper, objective-oriented, and organised work-out in hand-to-hand combat (self-defence) can be an ideal, selfless, and effective way to spend one’s free time away from our daily family and professional commitments, providing the training persons with much joy, new experiences, and pleasant impression.
