Abstract - Boxing as a border situation

The author of the article interprets boxing in the perspective of existentialistic conception of man, anchored in Heidegger philosophy of death, death as a border situation, meaning crossing the threshold of life towards nothingness – from existence to nonentity. Death and nonentity threaten in a direct way – although not always feasible – to the participants of a boxing duel, despite their endeavor to affirmation of life and explosion of their own skills in a conventional sport ritual. Nothingness for them is the worst, not exactly necessary, but possible result of fight. For that reason – both before confrontation as well as in time of its duration – there appears, to a greater or smaller degree, the fear, apprehension and shivering before unknown possible failure, taking into account even the final annihilation.
