Abstract - The Noble Value of A Southeast Asian Martial Art A Case Study of Pencak Silat Maenpo Cikalong

Background. The evidence demonstrates the reality of cultural fading and a reduction in pencak silat practice which has been nearly completely eradicated due to the introduction of other martial arts into the fast-paced global culture.
Problem and aim. The noble values of Pencak Silat Maenpo Cikalong’s local wisdom, which is a developing cultural heritage in the Cianjur community of West Java, are intended to be shown through this study. The question “What noble values are contained in Pencak Silat Maenpo Cikalong as local wisdom?” elaborates on the core issue of this study.
Material and methods. The qualitative research methodology is used in this research by gathering empirical information on the research subjects, that is the Pencak Silat Maenpo Cikalong actors, as well as the community and relevant stakeholders, through observations and interviews. The steps of data gathering, data reduction, data display, and natural and actual findings were all examined and reported in a thorough, coherent, and impartial manner. Results. In Maenpo Cikalong the values of noble character are contained, namely, caring, modesty, courage, honesty, discipline, respect, and self-control. These values are translated from the teachings of the Maenpo Cikalong, both from philosophy and from the advice of the Maenpo Cikalong founder, which the Maenpo Cikalong coaches hold firmly and become a reference in teaching Maenpo Cikalong.
Conclusions. The core noble values contained in Pencak Silat Maenpo Cikalong are universal values of courage in sport.
